Chapter I

It was a struggle. History will unfortunately judge my struggle as a failure.

However, in my defense, I always knew this struggle would end in failure. But as I saw it, I had could not walk away. That was never an option.

My grandfather, Dr. Zsoldos was born to be a politician. He was the fifth President of my country (or at least as it was when I was born) and helped the nation through the particularly difficult times of the early 20s. However, despite his dedication to the nation, he wasn't without his detractors. Most of whom accused him of pandering to the minorities. Whether he did that or not is not for me to say. It anyways seems irrelevant at this stage. But what his detractors failed to understand was that even after they came to power, they would face an uphill task in keeping the nation together.

I'm not even sure anyone will read this. Considering it has been written by a leader without a nation, and at the end of the day - a failure. But if anyone does, I hope they will understand the reasons behind why our young, but great nation, ceased to exist.

In one sense, this book has been falsely titled. It is more of an analysis (as I see it) of the collapse of a nation that my autobiography. In another sense, it is completely accurate. It isn't solely the history of the Fall of the Nation, but of my fall as well. A fall from which I fear I may never be able to recover.
